I've seen dev leads so toxic in their interactions that they drive away amazing developers. You may ask yourself - why is this necessary? It's open source software if people want to help, they'll figure out how to help on their own, right? Well, in 30 years in the computer industry, I've seen enough software teams led by a megalomaniac who thinks their software does things the "right way" and that change is unnecessary, or that what many in the community considers essential features "don't need to be in the core - plugins are just fine for that." I've seen people fight against UI improvements because people should just "learn our way". We've got a roadmap of things we'd like to add, including streamlining the user interface and adding much-needed features, but we lack development resources and funds to do so. We're a small, dedicated community of people working to make FreeCAD better, but we need your help. Is FreeCAD going to be right for you? You'll have to make that decision for yourself. "With the recent license changes of a popular CAD software, we know that people are looking into other options, including FreeCAD. I wonder if now would be a good time for a sort of mission statement / YouTube announcement from the FreeCAD devs? So we all know the Fusion 360 news has people kicking the tires on FreeCAD and poking around to see how mature the software is, what the community is all about, and whether FreeCAD is something they should be looking at.
