I've seen dev leads so toxic in their interactions that they drive away amazing developers. You may ask yourself - why is this necessary? It's open source software if people want to help, they'll figure out how to help on their own, right? Well, in 30 years in the computer industry, I've seen enough software teams led by a megalomaniac who thinks their software does things the "right way" and that change is unnecessary, or that what many in the community considers essential features "don't need to be in the core - plugins are just fine for that." We've got a roadmap of things we'd like to add, including streamlining the user interface and adding much-needed features, but we lack development resources and funds to do so.
